Firefox made a Boo-Boo

When the firefox 3 was officially launched i was very happy. I tried to download as fast as possible. After download i found out something shocking. Firefox really made a mistake.

Even though they made the download page in spreadfirefox they forgot to change the file in the download link. The button showed firefox 3 and what we got was firefox version 2.0.0.14 which was about 5mb in size( v3 is about 7mb ). After downloading only i noticed. I went back refreshes a dozen times for it to load( as i said earlier, the site was slow because of the large number of visitors ) and finally noticed that they have added the correct file.

Now i have the version 3 with me. Shame on you firefox. But i wont complain. You must have forgotten it while you guys were in a hurry.

Anyways good work Mozilla Firefox team. Cheers!!!

Eventhough the file is now really 7mb and version 3, the download button shows 2.0.0.14. Strange!!!!!

Firefox 3 finally out...Yeeeeeppyyyyy!!!

I have been trying to download firefox 3 from 11:30pm. And i just got into the site and finished downloading. The site was damn slow probably because of the large number of fans all trying to download it.

Speed up your internet

I have been using OpenDNS for sometime now and i really like it. It has given me no problems till now and i recommend you do this. It works well especially with BSNL and Airtel broadbands.

One of the major problems with BSNL Dataone Broadband connection is the DNS servers they provide by default. Most of the time they are very slow and sometimes they fail to respond. I noticed that I am starting to spend a significant amount of time in DNS resolution with Dataone connection, often it is larger than the time it takes to actually get the reponse. Here is a simple solution to significantly speed up your DNS resolution.

Open up the network connection profile and edit TCP/IP settings. In the DNS server address fields, specify the following DNS server addresses: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Disconnect the connection and then connect again. You are done.


It's faster because it stores requests in a large cache; if you ask for the same IP address that other users have requested, OpenDNS doesn't need to look elsewhere--it has it. Make a typo--say, "netfliks.com"--and you're delivered to the correct site. Not only that, a warning appears if you reach a phishing site. You can also disable adult sites to make it safer for children.

Also try downloading and using TCP Optimizer.I used it and it improved my speed a lot. It really works. Try it and you'll know the difference.

• Download TCP Optimizer from SpeedGuide.net.
• Test your internet speed from Speedtest.net and note down the result.(Stop all uploading and downloading before conducting the test)
• Tweak using the software and if you don't know what your doing just check on optimal settings and click 'Apply'.
• Restart your PC.
• Test your speed again from Speedtest.net and see the difference for yourself.

Why we cannot create a folder named CON

Have you tried creating a folder named CON?Try it. You wont be able to have a folder with such a name.

CON is described as console. It is hardware name in DOS and windows operating systems. In DOS and windows operating system some hardware specific name can not be used as file name or folder names. The CON is referred to the combination of Key board and Monitor and is called Console. We can use the CON to create the text files.

CON is not the only name, which is not supported. There some other keywords that can’t be used as file name or the folder name. They are NUL, PRN, AUX, CLOCK$, COM0, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT0, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9.All the above mentioned are the computer parts name. For example PRN refers as Printer, COM refers to communication ports.

Apart from these reserved keywords, some special characters are also forbidden as filer name or the folder name. / \ : * ? " < > | are not allowed as part of the file name or the folder name. Whenever we will try to include theses characters in our file name or the folder name, we will get a warning message. We must follow these rules while naming the file, otherwise we can not save the data in file.

Another cool one. TRY THIS:

create a new notepad file, empty.
just write "bush hid the facts" without quotes and save it, dont press enter.

Firefox 3 launch date announced

The Firefox guys have the official announcement at http://developer.mozilla.org/devnews/index.php/2008/06/11/coming-tuesday-june-17th-firefox-3/ and plan to release Firefox 3 on Tuesday, June 17th.

So plan your parties and download fests accordingly! If you have not registered your party yet, you probably won't get the party packs in time for the launch day. BUT, you can still plan an event over the next few weeks... so please do celebrate with us whenever you have time!

Remember, if you want an official Firefox 3 party pack with all the goodies, you need to:

I'm back...

You must have noticed that i did not update my blog for few days now. The reason..hmmm..the reason was that i totaly thrashed my pc. Well it was not actually me. Everything started when my UPS was burned. The computer guys said they needed some time to get the components fixed. I waited the first day. Then i called them and they said that it would take 4 or 5 days to get it repaired. 5 days.. that would be like the longest time i have ever stayed without using my pc. I couldnt wait that long. I had to finish assasin's creed, flash my phone to the new firmware from Amin, blog, chat etc etc.. So i started using the computer without the ups.

I was playing assasin's creed. It was like the last level or should i say memory block when the bloody f%*#ing electricity guys switched of the power supply. As i had no ups my pc too was off.

After the electricity was back i tried to switch on the pc. Now the trouble started. I could not get my pc to start. I tried reintsalling vista and also checking the ram and all to make sure noting is damaged. After many tries i managed to install vista. But it was damn slow. Slower like i have never seen. But i somehow managed to use it. But when i tried to flash my phone the next set of errors came. I couldnt do anything. I almost bricked my phone.

So i decided to switch back to xp. And i should say. XP in my pc is much faster than vista in my pc although it doesnt have that cool looks. I think i'll stay with xp for sometime. I think i fell in love all over again ;

Anyways i would be blogging after 11th of this month. I will be going to chennai to try to get a seat in Hindustan College. Please do pray for me guys
